Tampa Bay Fishing Charters

Winter Time Tampa Bay Fishing Charters Report 12/18/16:

Strong north winds and big negative low tides around the full and new moon phases make for great fishing in Tampa Bay. The fish are pushing way up the creeks in search of warmer water, on the negative low tides they will pile up in the deeper holes on flats which makes for a fun trip. The water is warm enough to catch live greenbacks and thats been my bait of choice on the flats. Up the creeks the fish have been keying in more on shrimp and other crustacion’s.

Rod Bending Action On Tampa Bay Fishing Charters:

Redfish, Snook, and Trout drop off in the deeper holes on the flats there often trapped and starving. If I’m able to find a trough and get in the hole, I find the area most concentrated with mullet, start to fish them with green backs or cut bait. A cut pinfish, cut lady fish or mullet has been the go to cut bait. If artificial’s are your method of choice or what you prefer to use on your trip. A mirrolure lil jon, D.O.A shad tail or a gold spoon has been doing the job.

What Else Is Biting?

Up the creeks and rivers the bite has been a little different, these fish have been keying in mostly on shrimp and other crustaceans. Mainly fishing the deep trough’s and oyster bars and any rock piles we can find. The smaller redfish and snook that invade the creeks in the wintertime have been keeping the rods bent. Fish are ranging anywhere from 15-23 inch’s and are catchable just about every cast. Bigger slot and overslot Snook and Redfish have been average on every trip

In the winter time just about every rock pile or rocky shoreline up the rivers and in the bay you find will hold black drum and sheepshead. Sheepshead and black drum are crustacean eaters, they keep the rod’s bent and are great table fair.
